Spurs News Brief: “We were the better team” – JD

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has been giving his reaction on our opening day defeat against Newcastle at the Sports Direct Arena. The England striker scored our equaliser before we conceded a penalty four minutes later, with Hatem Ben Arfa sending Brad Friedel the wrong way:

“I thought we were unlucky and that we were the better team,” said Defoe.

“We were patient, organised and didn’t give them anything through the middle. They didn’t have any clear-cut chances, that’s why I think we did well and were unlucky to lose.

“When I scored the equaliser, I thought we’d go on and nick it and if we won a point, so be it. It’s such a tough place to play. When they won the penalty it was tough to take.”

For some bizarre reason the Daily Mirror have linked us with making a loan move for Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh. Other than that being completely insane due to his lack of playing time for Arsenal in the last 10 months, he also plays for Arsenal and would therefore not be particularly welcome at White Hart Lane (article here).

Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly invited Israeli midfielder Nir Biton in for talks as he looks to bolster his midfield as progress for permanent deals for Yann M’Vila and Joao Moutinho have stalled (article here). Let’s check out the man:
